E- Library for the female inmates of Tihar

Tihar Jail of Delhi houses women prisoners along with their male counterparts, though in a separate enclosure. Serving a sentence, whatever the reason may be is a very traumatic experience. They are separated from their loved ones, have long hours to fill and their self-confidence is nullified. Subsequently, it was felt that imparting training and skills to these women would not only help them gain financial independence after their release, it would also go a long way in filling out their long hours. As there was no library, the prison administration showed their interest in establishing one in partnership with India Vision Foundation. The E-Library engages more than 600 women inmates by its useful and interesting content. The objective of this program is to encourage literacy among the women inmates of Tihar Prison by providing them with quality content to read for their motivation and engagement. The E Library also helps to channelize their energies in a productive way by offering them a creative and fruitful pastime. The E Library is open from 9.00AM-5.00PM and the inmates are encouraged to visit and read the books.
